No appointments are offered between March 7, 2014 and March 15, 2014, during U.Va. Spring Break, or after April 15, 2014, the filing deadline for federal income tax returns. Please note that the scheduling software may allow you to make an appointment for one of these dates. If such an appointment is made, you will receive an email asking to reschedule. Dates and times are subject to change.

If you decide to use our tax preparation services, please do not arrive more than 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer appointments to either resident or nonresident aliens this year.

Appointments last approximately one hour. If you need to change or cancel an existing appointment, please contact us at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. Please review the taxpayer requirements below for qualifying for VITA services. Taxpayers who do not meet these requirements cannot receive tax return preparation assistance.

Taxpayer Requirements

  • U.S. citizen/national or permanent resident for tax purposes
  • Proof of identification (passport, driver's license, etc.)
  • Valid Social Security Numbers (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN)
  • Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) less than or equal to $53,000
    • Income earned by a spouse counts towards AGI if you choose to file Married - Filing Jointly
  • Did not receive rental income
  • Did not receive partnership income
  • We cannot prepare a state income tax return without preparing a federal income tax return
  • In addition to a federal income tax return, we can also prepare one (1) state income tax return.

What You Should Bring

  • Proof of identification
  • Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration [previous year tax return is not acceptable]
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
  • Current year’s tax package if you received one
  • Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Form 1099)
  • Students: Form 1098-T and information on scholarships, fellowships, and grants
  • A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available
  • Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds or direct debit of tax payments
  • Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number)
